Breaks are great time to do some planning…..  Once we switch off from the day to day details of life the right brain (our creative headquarters) can take over and imagine some brilliant new schemes. Always write them down – some will fly with the angels, other ideas are better deflated gently.

Entrepreneurs are well know for their wild ideas, before taking off with them take a leaf from the big boys - write an annual report on your business. Look at it from the perspective of the many hats you wear as business owner and make a few informed recommendations. For example the CEO might have a look at the overall successes – and disappointments – of the year while the HR Department may make some recommendations about the staff, including you… perhaps more holidays or an increase in salary or more training. Listen carefully to this one to avoid burnout!

Let the Financial Controller have their say, was budget met? Is there a surplus or a deficit? What will next years budget look like? And make sure the Marketing Department has a voice – what has worked and what hasn't in this area? What are the trends and where is the energy best spent in marketing over the next period – ie what is your marketing strategy?
